First Black woman and first Native American woman to earn a pilot’s license. When American flight schools refused to teach her, she learned French and earned her license in France. She navigated uncharted skies, barnstormed across the country, and refused to perform at any venue that segregated its audience. She navigated new territory when no one would show her the way.
